i wanted to have two male dancers because i wanted to show how power struggles could happen in many types of relationships not just male/female love relationships. i wanted their struggle for control in the dance to translate into relationships between family, friends, lovers, and strangers as well. during the piece the dancers trade off who is in control and who is being controlled. the song peacekeeper is about just that, how we can allow ourselves to be controlled in relationships, hand over our power, then fight to be in control of what’s happening around us. ~poeina
